Vetcare was awarded as the Company of the Year by the Entrepreneurs of Southwest Finland
Vetcare's long-term work was recognized on Saturday, November 18, 2023, with the Company of the Year award at the Entrepreneur Gala of Southwest Finland. The recognition was granted by the Entrepreneurs of Southwest Finland, based on the criteria of a healthy, well-functioning, and responsible business.
- Absolutely fantastic news! As a second-generation CEO, I am especially proud of us and our journey. Animal welfare has always been the guiding value in our operations, and we will continue to work towards it, stated Olli Kuussaari, CEO of Vetcare Group, in his thank-you speech at Logomo.
Celebrating its 30th anniversary last year, Vetcare Group has grown into a 50 million-euro international animal medicine conglomerate, including pharmaceutical and product development, as well as wholesale business. The company employs 55 professionals in veterinary medicine and related fields, and its medicines are now exported to over 30 countries.
- Vetcare, based in Salo, has been financially successful, and its founders have developed the company personally and with commitment. With courage and innovation, it has grown into one of Finland's leading companies in the veterinary medicine sector. Vetcare is an excellent example of the diverse business structure in Southwest Finland, praised Hanna Munter, CEO of the Entrepreneurs of Southwest Finland.
Responsible Growth
Responsibility has always been at the core of Vetcare's operations. Social responsibility is reflected in being a good employer and corporate citizen. Financial responsibility ensures healthy business operations and long-term sustainability, while operational responsibility is evident in everyday work addressing issues such as antibiotic resistance, safe sedation of dogs, and the well-being of pets.
- We invest a significant part of our business annually in product development. And our investments are not just financial; we do everything in our power to advance the industry and veterinary science. This may involve supporting the well-being of veterinarians in their work, research collaborations, and donated professorships, says Susanna Peiponen, Partner and Customer Experience Director at Vetcare.
Antibiotic resistance is listed by the WHO as one of the world's most significant health threats. Vetcare has been involved in building a change in the use of antibiotics in Finland, and the narrow-spectrum antibiotic developed by the company for treating mastitis in cows has significantly reduced the use of broad-spectrum antibiotics.
In Finland, about 2,500 dogs are sedated every day at veterinary clinics, and in Europe, about 200,000. Sedating a small or old dog may seem risky to the owner. The product development collaboration between Vetcare and the University of Helsinki has enabled safe sedation with less cardiovascular stress.
Thanks to Vetcare employees, our partners, owner families, the University of Helsinki, University of the Easter Finland, Finnish veterinarians, pet owners, principals, and all of you who have been with us on this journey, Kuussaari concludes.
